Writer Nathan O'Donnell will talk about some of his current research and publishing activities.

O'Donnell is a writer of fiction and criticism, with a scholarly specialism in twentieth century art criticism and magazine publishing. He is co-editor of Paper Visual Art Journal, currently undertaking the inaugural Basic Space Research Residency. He has published short stories, articles, and essays widely in art and literary magazines. He teaches (on art criticism and magazine histories) as part of the MA/MFA Art in the Contemporary World at NCAD. He is editing the forthcoming Oxford University Press reissue of the British avant-garde magazine, BLAST, and his first book - on Wyndham Lewis's art criticism - will be published by Liverpool University Press. He is also exploring theoretical approaches to contemporary magazine publishing and editing, and is particularly interested in the way in which private and public realms are delineated within critical writing.

BASIC TALKS is a series of informal talks with leading contemporary practitioners, taking place at The Hugh Lane on the second Friday of every month. Curated by Basic Space in partnership with The Hugh Lane, BASIC TALKS is an open platform for talks, panels, lectures and performances. Speakers will include artists, curators, writers and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and The Hugh Lane, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.
