Rosie O’Reilly, recipient of the BS/AR 2019 in collaboration with ONONO, Rotterdam, will finish her residency by presenting audio visual work made in direct response to her residency in Rotterdam. The work will be activated by a 20 minute audio performance by musical formation Headfoot that will combine both field recordings from the port of Rotterdam and live sound. Rotterdam based artist Ryan Cherewaty scripted the text ‘Ghost Terminal’ for a publication which will be produced for the event and will be responded to by drawings by ONONO artists Tracy Hanna, Dan Fogarty and Raluca Croitoru.

Squatting in the human remnants of the machine world explores stories of flux and change related to ports and port towns. These places offer lenses to understand movement. What questions do we need to ask in these times and what new stories need to be told to understand control while everything is in flux? No where offers a home for these questions more than Rotterdam, a city defined by its planning and control of water.

Rosie O’Reilly is an audio visual artist and maker, her work is informed by her studies in the philosophy of consciousness and sociology. She is concerned with the atomised view of the world that separates the human and non human. Her work retells these stories to build connections in a world we are physically entangled with but have been trained to think apart from. She most recently exhibited thrown up by the sea for Tulca 2018 & group show Guest Appearance, The Museum Building TCD (April 2018), performance lecture strangers in a middle world in CIIMAR, Porto (March 2018), Tombolo (October 2017) and collaboratively launched Rosc; fiction of the contemporary publication and performance at IMMA (2017). She has exhibited both nationally and internationally including “An Alternative Geography of curating” Fondazione Sandretto, Turin, ‘Seasons as Fluid Forms’ Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto Gijon, Spain (2014)

The title ‘Squatting in the human remnants of the machine world ‘ is taken from Ghost Terminal publication text by Ryan Cherewaty.
