The Trans Live Art Salon will be presenting a post-mortem of a year of work as a collective and an introduction to playful community organization and ethical curation as an anti-capitalist art practice.

Who are the Trans Live Art Salon?

The Trans Live Art Salon is a collective of trans & gender non-conforming artists in Dublin, originating from a residency programme at Live Collision International Festival. The Trans Live Art Salon is carving a space for trans and gender non-conforming people to feel safe, work together as a community, and learn from each other. The collective’s aim is to bring trans-narrated trans narratives to the fore, to elevate work by trans artists, and open dialogue about the ways that trans people are (mis)represented in the media and in art.

Dámhín Mckeown is an interdisciplinary artist and community organizer with Trans Live Art Salon in Dublin, Ireland. His previous work includes the award-winning Fully Automated Luxury Gender Oasis. He is a Sagittarius/Capricorn cusp.

Aidan Wall is a writer, musician, game designer and artist based between Dublin and Amsterdam. Their research revolves around the potential of games as experiences which can make transparent or reflect systems of governance under neoliberal capitalism. The output of this research takes the form of essays, fiction, publications, performances and tabletop games.

M is a scientist and artist from Wexford, Ireland. They work in various media including writing, photography, music and video. They are interested in expression and connection. Their work explores themes like identity, community, class, and the queering of everything.

Robyn McQuaid-O'Dwyer is a theatre and performance maker and facilitator. Their work includes two shows for Dublin Fringe Festival, Cuomo (2013) and (Not) Belonging, (2015, with This Is Happening), and performance work in Dublin, Glasgow and Rotterdam. They founded the Trans Live Art Salon in association with Live Collision International Festival, co-facilitate its festival residency with Robbie Blake, and most recently won the Spirit of Fringe, Spirit of Project Award at Dublin Fringe 2017 for TLAS' chill space and trans art festival, the Fully-Automated Luxury Gender Oasis.

Llaura McGee is an internationally recognized and multi-award-winning Irish artist, writer and video game maker. Through her DREAMFEEL label she is known for work such as 'CURTAIN' the interactive experience of two women in a Glasgow punk band, 'Fluc', a controllable thunderstorm inside a tent installation, and 'If Found', the story of when the end of the world comes to the West coast of Ireland.

BASIC TALKS is a series of talks with leading contemporary practitioners, taking place at The Hugh Lane on the second Friday of every month. Curated by Basic Space in partnership with The Hugh Lane, BASIC TALKS is a platform for lectures, workshops, presentations, and performances. Speakers will include artists, curators, writers, and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and The Hugh Lane, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.

Admission is free but spaces are limited to 50 so please arrive promptly to avoid disappointment.

Basic Talks ~ Trans Live Art Salon is part of a multi-site programme of exhibitions, residencies and public programmes looking at institutional attitudes, community spaces and education.
