Basic Space is delighted to present Maïa Nunes for our February BASIC TALK.

Maïa Nunes is an emerging performance artist of Irish-Trinidadian descent currently based in Dublin. Last year she graduated with a BFA in Textile Art and Artefact from NCAD. Upon graduating she was awarded the Thomas Dammann Memorial Trust award and a Fellowship of Creative Dissent at Yerba Buena Centre of the Arts. These awards afforded her the opportunity to travel to San Francisco and participate in Tania Brugueras’ first Escuela De Arte Útíl, whilst also assisting the Associación de Arte Útíl in developing their archive.

She is currently developing a body of interdisciplinary performance work that explores ambiguity as the site of transformative potential, ritual as healing for the afro-diaspora, and song as liberation practice. She is a founding member of new sister projects Éalú and Origins Eile, a podcast discussing identities of colour in an Irish context, and a grassroots organisation for people of colour living in Dublin.

BASIC TALKS is a series of talks with leading contemporary practitioners, taking place at The Hugh Lane on the second Friday of every month. Curated by Basic Space in partnership with The Hugh Lane, BASIC TALKS is a platform for lectures, workshops, presentations, and performances. Speakers include artists, curators, writers, and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and The Hugh Lane, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.

Admission is free but spaces are limited to 50 so please arrive promptly to avoid disappointment.
