Basic Space is delighted to present artist Aoibheann Greenan for our November BASIC TALK.

Aoibheann Greenan an Irish artist currently based in London. She graduated from NCAD with a BA in Painting and recently completed an MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths, London. Greenan’s practice explores the politics of spectatorship in today’s hypermediated society. Through sculptural interventions and staged scenarios her work seeks to create temporalities that displace the everyday. Oscillating between truth and fiction, these ruptures introduce moments of cognitive dissonance around systems that inconspicuously influence our behaviour. Past projects have drawn upon LARP, reenactment, sporting rituals, and feminist sci-fi to propose alternate forms of encounter, play and resistance within the social structures we inhabit.

Aoibheann will discuss her recent performance commission for Tulca 2018, which involves a fictional commemoration of the St Patrick’s Battalion, in collaboration with La banda de gaitas del Batallón de San Patricio- the only bagpipe band in  Mexico. She will also discuss her transition towards site-specific work and her involvement with East London Cable (ELC), an artist collective exploring the intersection between contemporary art and television.

BASIC TALKS is a series of talks with leading contemporary practitioners, taking place at The Hugh Lane on the second Friday of every month. Curated by Basic Space in partnership with The Hugh Lane, BASIC TALKS is a platform for lectures, workshops, presentations, and performances. Speakers will include artists, curators, writers, and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and The Hugh Lane, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.

Admission is free but spaces are limited to 50 so please arrive promptly to avoid disappointment.
