BASIC TALKS ~ Aine McBride
08/09/17
The Hugh Lane Gallery
Artist Aine McBride will discuss her work and practice including recent group and solo exhibitions at Kerlin Gallery, NCAD Gallery, and the Douglas Hyde.
Aine McBride’s work formally references domestic, urban, and commercial motifs and imagery via an abstraction. The starting point for the pieces is in photographs taken and gathered from the everyday. The work produced is nebulous and ambiguous by construction. It is decidedly not grand, not sensational and at times almost banal.
She graduated BA (Hons) Fine Art Sculpture and Visual Culture from the National College of Art and Design in 2016. Recent exhibitions include ‘Hannah Fitz, Áine McBride, Daniel Rios Rodriguez, Marcel Vidal’, (2017), Kerlin Gallery, ‘Neu Gen’ (2017), NCAD Gallery, ‘Habitat HQ’ (2017), Douglas Hyde Gallery off-site project and ‘Very Good Waves Now’ (2016), Catalyst Arts.
Aine McBride is currently completing a six month sculpture workshop residency in Fire Station Artist Studios.

Curated by Basic Space in partnership with The Hugh Lane, BASIC TALKS is an open platform for lectures, workshops, presentations, and performances. Speakers will include artists, curators, writers, and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and The Hugh Lane, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.
